Wind Ensemble
The purpose of the wind ensemble is to build musical skill and to train students to be educated performers and consumers of the arts in general. Focus is placed on building individual instrumental technique, musical sensitivity, and proper ensemble playing through the rehearsal and performance of quality wind band literature selected from across the western musical cannon. The wind ensemble has a long tradition of excellence at North Springs High School. It is the premier performance group of the band program. In 2006 the band travelled to Hattiesburg, Mississippi on an invitation to perform at the All-South conductor's conference at the University of Southern Mississippi. It was a prestigious honor for the wind ensemble. In 2009, the band performed at the University of Alabama Band Clinic.
The wind ensemble is composed of those brass, woodwind, and percussion players who have received the highest scores in the annual Spring auditions. These students are enrolled in first period band during the entirety of the school year. Prospective students should be able to perform all twelve major scales from memory, perform the three common minor forms, sight-read at least at a grade four level, and perform a grade five prepared etude.
