Like the wind ensemble, the purpose of the concert band is to build musical skill and to train students to be educated performers and consumers of the arts in general. The focus of instruction is identical to the wind ensemble with the goal of moving students to the skill level requisite of the wind ensemble.

The concert band is composed of woodwind, brass, and percussion students who are selected in the annual spring auditions as needing additional instruction before moving on to the wind ensemble. The concert band generally performs music that is two performance grades below that of the wind ensemble. Students in the concert band are enrolled in first period band during the first semester and second period band during the second semester.
