We take pride in offering a unique experience for our band students at North Springs. We are a diverse school and community, and the band program is a reflection of that. The goal of the music department is to offer courses that initiate and continue the music education of our students. The band program addresses the needs of beginning through advanced wind and percussion players in curricular and extra-curricular ensembles, self directed practice, and music theory. During the school day we offer beginning band, wind and percussion master classes (self-directed with lessons), intermediate band, advanced band, beginning guitar and AP Music Theory. Our extra-curricular ensembles include jazz band, pit orcehstra, and marching band. The Magnet Program North Springs Charter High School offers both a Math/Science Magnet Program and a Performing & Visual Arts Magnet Program. These programs allow interested students to pursue enrichment and accelerated opportunities in mathematics, science, visual arts, dance, theatre, and music. Both magnet programs are interest based. Math & science magnet students must have a cumulative average of an eighty (80) or above, and performing & visual arts students must have a cumulative average of seventy-five (75) or above to participate in the program. Students may apply to either or both magnet programs, and must complete an essay, an audition, or submit a portfolio as outlined on the magnet application. Most incoming freshmen will be placed in introductory courses, although depending on prior experience and ability, may be able to move into a more advanced magnet class. As a comprehensive high school, all students at North Springs Charter High School must complete core curriculum courses. Students who participate in the magnet program are required to take at least one elective unit per year in their major area of interest. Students participating in the magnet program have specific curriculum credits that must be earned to achieve the magnet certification. Math/ Science students are required to earn twelve (12) core and elective math & science credits and Performing & Visual Arts students are required to earn eight (8) arts credits over four years. |
